Notice
The public-comment period on this plan is closed. Nothing on this page is an active call to action: it documents a completed CostsNYC project. Current opportunities to participate in NYC government processes are on the Have Your Say page.
What this campaign was
In April 2026, the NYC Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ) released the Preliminary Citywide Racial Equity Plan for public comment, a document covering 45 city agencies across multiple plan areas. CostsNYC built a plain-language resource to help New Yorkers understand what the plan proposed, find the parts relevant to their own lives, and prepare a comment in their own words before the comment period closed.
What CostsNYC built
- Plain-language guides to what public comment is and how to write a more specific, effective comment.
- A browsable hub covering all 45 agencies, 7 plan areas, and 9 issue themes in the plan, with per-agency and per-theme summaries of proposed goals.
- A guided comment-preparation tool that helped residents turn a lived experience into a draft comment.
What users were encouraged to do
Read the plain-language guides, browse the plan by agency, area, or theme to find what was relevant to them, and submit a comment directly to the City through the official comment channel before the May 6, 2026 deadline.
What happens next? (current status)
The comment period is closed and the guided comment tool is no longer accepting new drafts. MOERJ and participating agencies are expected to review submitted comments as part of finalizing the plan. For the authoritative status of the plan and any final version, consult the NYC Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice (opens in a new tab) directly. CostsNYC is not the City and does not track the plan's internal review process.
