Mission & Commitment

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) enforces consumer protection laws, investigates fraud, and works to protect workers' rights. The Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) created the NYC Neighborhood Financial Health Index assessing the financial health of NYC neighborhoods using data from 2021. Black, Latino, and immigrant communities face higher rates of consumer fraud, deceptive business practices, medical debt, and barriers to financial services. DCWP is committed to protecting these communities and closing wealth gaps.
