The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) promotes and protects the health of all New Yorkers. DOHMH acknowledges that Black New Yorkers have a life expectancy of 76.1 years compared to 81.8 years for white New Yorkers. COVID-19 disproportionately impacted Black and Hispanic New Yorkers. DOHMH's equity goals address health disparities across chronic disease, mental health, maternal and child health, environmental health, and social determinants of health. The Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equity (TRIE) identified 33 priority neighborhoods, which accounted for over 50% of all NYC COVID-19 cases when TRIE was established.
