HPD is the nation's largest municipal housing preservation and development agency. HPD recently increased down payment assistance for low-income homebuyers from $40,000 to $100,000 through the HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program, adding $41 million (for a total of $82 million in City funding over five years). HPD is committed to equitable housing production and preservation, tenant protection, anti-displacement strategies, and building a diverse workforce. HPD and the Center for NYC Neighborhoods launched a Homeowner Help Desk pilot in Southeast Queens, East New York, and the Northern Bronx expanded citywide at end of 2024.
