Plan area context

In New York City, Black and Brown New Yorkers are more likely to be displaced from their homes and face higher rates of housing insecurity and homelessness. Redlining, exclusionary zoning, and discriminatory mortgage lending have created persistent racial wealth gaps. The median household net worth for white New Yorkers is approximately $276,900 compared to approximately $18,870 for Black New Yorkers. NYCHA serves approximately 400,000 low-income residents, the majority of whom are Black and Latino, and is in the midst of a massive rehabilitation program.
