Mission & Commitment

The Department of City Planning (DCP) shapes the city's physical and socioeconomic development by advising on land use, zoning, housing policy, and infrastructure. DCP's racial equity goals include: addressing racial, gender, gender identity, age, and disability gaps in DCP positions; ensuring pay equity for all; expanding community engagement in planning processes in underserved neighborhoods; and integrating racial equity analysis into planning decisions. Historical land use, zoning, and redlining practices have consistently disadvantaged communities of color and low-income neighborhoods.
