Mission & Commitment

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is committed to public safety for all New Yorkers. NYPD acknowledges historical patterns of discriminatory policing that have impacted communities of color, and the work required to rebuild trust. NYPD's racial equity goals address use of force policies and data disaggregation, expanding community engagement, diversifying the department's workforce, improving officer training on implicit bias and cultural competency, and expanding alternatives to arrest for low-level offenses.

Enhance the hiring process by removing unnecessary barriers, bringing greater transparency to decisions, and ensuring qualified candidates are not excluded by the system
